Christmas at the Hummingbird House by Donna Ball – Bee Readin'

Christmas at the Hummingbird House by Donna Ball

I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or Happy Hanukkah, whichever you may celebrate.  My wish for you is a peaceful holiday season with friends or family.

If you have time to sneak away to a quiet corner with a cup of tea, coffee or even a glass of wine during the holiday season to lose yourself in a great book; I want to recommend Christmas at the Hummingbird House by Donna Ball.  The story is so much fun and shows us to stop amidst the chaos and find the magic of the holidays.

For those of you not familiar with the Ladybug Farm series, Donna Ball is the author of the Ladybug Farm books and they are one of my all time favorite book series.  She continued the series with The Hummingbird House, where the ladies of Ladybug Farm welcome their dear friends Paul and Derrick  to the Shenandoah Valley to escape their hectic city lives.

Paul and Derrick open The Hummingbird House Bed and Breakfast and find themselves in a mess trying to pull it together with some wacky employees and disasters at every turn.  Now it is Christmas time and Christmas at the Hummingbird House continues the story.  Derrick and Paul have 20 some Christmas trees to decorate, cooking to be done and final preparations to be made when their trusty assistant decides to take off for the holidays. They are left scratching their heads and panicked in how to get it ready to welcome their visitor’s who have paid to have a magical week at the B & B.

The story will have you laughing, crying and trying to solve the mystery of the stranger  who shows up looking for work, just when they need help the most. Who is he and where does he come from?

Treasured Christmas decorations start missing, when their cook and housekeeper decide to bring her kids to the Inn. Paul and Derrick aren’t crazy about kids and especially now with all of the preparations well underway. Who is taking these items and why? Of course all fingers start pointing at their stranger,but….. is it really him?

Finally all of the decorating is done, and the inn is ready to welcome the wacky mix of guests.  The family with 2 daughters arrive and instantly everyone is annoyed as these girls can’t put down their cell phones and honestly are just angry to be pulled away from friends during the holidays, the author who is giving a lecture on his self-help book and struggles to hide from everyone, the eccentric older woman boisterously arrives and then the couple who seem to have lost their love for each other and the last two couples who have switched spouses, but  remained dear friends, it promises to be a week that won’t soon be forgotten. They all seem to be miserable, hiding secrets and trying to salvage their Christmas season at the Hummingbird House.

Derrick and Paul have planned peaceful holiday celebrations with beautiful dinners, caroler’s, sleigh rides and holiday shopping trips, when chaos, anger and secrets slip quietly in.  Yet each one seems to find the magic of the season, become friends and healing begins.  The guests and ladies of Ladybug Farm find joy, learn how to be present in the moment and appreciate the surprises along the way.

Christmas at the Hummingbird House is the perfect holiday read.  I hope you love it!
