Country by Danielle Steel – Bee Readin'

Country by Danielle Steel

Good morning,

Our May gray has started here along the coast of So. California, and it sure makes for cozy reading in the mornings.  It is my hope that you all are finding some time to curl up with a good book and maybe a cup of tea or coffee.  Before long summer will be upon us and then it is time for iced tea and iced coffee.

I know I have mentioned to you how much I love a Danielle Steel book and I have several on my Kindle just itching to be read.  Country is not her newest, but it was next on the list and as typical it was finished in 2 days.  Country is a good one for a nice summer read, but I bet once you start you can’t put it down.

Country is a story about loss, love and following your heart.  If you have read Danielle Steel before you are familiar with her style and the common thread that runs through her books, while for me they are fun reads, I always seem to get something from them.  The story begins with 3 couples who are close friends and have a tradition of traveling together a couple of times a year.  Each couple has their issues, marriages aren’t what they appear, yet one thinks she has the perfect marriage and can be a bit judgemental of the others, but does she?

When tragedy strikes one of the couples, lives are forever changed.  You lose the connection that couples have and feel like the third wheel always.  Country is about following your heart, not taking the safest path, discovering who you are and finding the sunshine at the end of a very long dark tunnel.  Taking a wrong turn and not turning back takes one of the characters in this book to a completely new life, one she never expects. You admire her for finding her voice when sometimes that voice has to be heard by her children.

I hope you enjoy it!

On another note, I want to back up and give you an update on A Man Called Ove.  I did see the film and loved it!  Sometimes movies can ruin a book, or change the book enough that you don’t love it as much as you did the book.  The movie for this book was excellent and truly brought the book to life and attached it to my heart even more.  If you have the chance to see the movie, I highly recommend it!

Lastly, I loved A Man Called Ove so much, that I have started reading his second book, My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry.  Just a couple of chapters in, I’m loving this one too.  The author Fredrik Backman has an incredible creative mind and he deals with wacky character’s, but yet you come to love them for the people they are and what lies deep in their souls.  I will see you back to chat about it once it is finished.

  1. I was happy to see that our library stocks A Man Called Ove. It’s checked out right now, but will be back in in a couple of days. I plan to read it soon.

    1. Please let me know what you think after you read it. It is so hard sometimes when I write the reviews; books are very subjective. What I like and recommend isn’t necessarily someone elses cup of tea. I loved the book and the movie. I’m now reading the next book and am loving it too.
