Five Books to Read While in Lockdown

Hey everyone,
I hope you and your families are doing well and are safe at home. If you are an essential worker, thank you for all you are doing for the rest of us.
Normal life as we knew it has been turned upside down and it is hard not knowing when it will end. Take a deep breath and try and find the simple joys in each day.
If you find yourself with extra time in your day, need some quiet in the midst of all the noise and want to lose yourself in an adventure, I am here to help you. Grab your favorite drink, curl up and let’s go.

The Walk book series by Richard Paul Evans is a fun and very well written adventure that will pull you in within the first few pages. I can hear some of you saying that you are not a fan of book series. I understand, I usually am not either, but there is something special about the story.

Alan Christoffersen has a dream life with a wife he adores and his own company. Within a few short months his life falls apart and he loses everything. Trying to get his bearings and back on his feet he has no idea who he is anymore. Alan’s thoughts tumble into the deepest, darkest corners of his soul and he contemplates ending his life. But he finds the strength to stand and put one foot in front of the other. He packs a backpack with a few personal necessities, pulls a paper map out and finds the furthest point from his home in Seattle. He steps out the door of what was his home and starts walking from Seattle, Washington to Key West, Florida.

The books are written in journal form as though it is Alan’s daily entries and you will thoroughly enjoy it. Alan’s journey will become your journey and you will feel as if you are walking in battered tennis shoes and carrying your own pack beside him. The people he meets and those that enter his life even for a few brief moments have a profound affect on him. Alan finds unexpected kindness, friendship and hope in the middle of moments that are terrifying and may stop his journey. But he continues on putting one foot in front of the other. Over time Alan begins to heal and when the fog begins to clear, he slowly sees his future.

I will warn you, you may want to have all 5 books on hand or downloaded to your e-reader before you start The Walk. Otherwise you may be screaming when you finish one book and are left hanging unable to start the next book.

It is my hope that you will treasure The Walk as much as I did. Trust me there were plenty of moments I wanted to grab a pack and just walk simply to get out of the house during this health crisis. I needed to feel the breeze in my hair and just travel somewhere. There were plenty of days that I read until the world was silent, housework and chores was ignored, it could wait until tomorrow or next week. I couldn’t wait to finish the last book and know how Alan’s journey ends, but then I didn’t want to finish the book because then it was finished and over.

If you read The Walk series, please jump on to the blog and let me know your thoughts, your favorite part or maybe tell me you didn’t like it, that is okay too.

I am always looking for great books, so please feel free to share your favorites too.

  1. Hope you are doing well, Terri, and have a little bit of extra time to read these days. I find myself insisting on a little lie down each afternoon with my Kindle. 🙂

    1. Jolandi,
I hope you guys are well. We are doing just fine. I am taking time to read and am checking books off my list that have been sitting on my kindle sometimes for several years. I hope you are finding extra time to curl up with a good book. Would love to know what you are reading.
      Take care!

      1. We are well, thanks Terri. I’m currently reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s The Signature of All Things, and loving it. Like you, I’ve had books on my Kindle for years that I haven’t yet read.

        1. So happy to hear you guys are doing well. I will check into that book. Of course I read Eat, Pray, Love by her, but haven’t read any of her other work. Stay well.

  2. Hi Terri, I really like Richard Paul Evans’ writing. I have “The Walk” on my to-read list. It’s been there for six years just waiting to be read. Maybe it’s time. LOL I didn’t realize it is one of five. Hope you’re still doing well. All is well here.

    1. Hi Janet, I have been thinking about you and wondering if you are having withdrawals not being able to hike? I had had The Walk on my Kindle for several years and finally challenged myself to read books I have had for a long time. I had not read anything from Richard Paul Evans, but I sure did fall in love with his style. If you get a chance, read The Walk, you will love it. I didn’t realize it was one of five either until I looked at it further. I waited until I got close to the end and loved it so much, I downloaded the other 4 and had them all read in a week. Once you read The Walk, let me know your thoughts. I am so glad to hear you guys are doing well. We are too. Take care!

      1. Gosh, it’s been almost a month since I’ve been on WordPress. Just seeing this now. Once the library reopens (who knows when?) I will check it out. Can’t wait!
